I just ordered a True tone from Jerry, and I thought about tryin to install it myself. What kind of solder do you use? I have some rosin core will that work? Just take the wires loose at the pickup and solder them to the other pup? I'm not much on this kind of stuff.

Its so easy you will have no problem. I was nervous and tried to do it myself on my Zum. Nothing to it. 2 wires to solder and 4 screws to put on. I think any solder designed for electrical applications will work. Just screw each screw little by little around the 4 so it settles in level. Do not over tighten and its a breeze.......... Ron, so it's the 4 small screws at the bottom of the pickup that holds it on? not the 3 screws on the top of the neck of the guitar? I reckon they are for leveling the pup?

Terry, use only rosin core solder on electronic connections. NO ACID CORE OR YOU MIGHT BE SORRY.

Also, don't try to disconnect the wires at the pickup. Take the wires loose at the other end. If you have a double neck guitar, you'll have to unsolder the wires at the selector switch. On a single neck, unsolder them at the output jack. |

And note BEFORE hand which wire lead goes where,
or you might invert you signal phase unintentionally.
Typically the inner wire goes to the tip of your plug, and the sheilding wire goes to the plug shaft. |

Yep ! that's right
Changin' a PU is'nt a difficult task Terry
like the Fo'Bro' said:
identify the hot & the ground wires on the TT
since you've got a D10, you'll be soldering on to the switch
since you have to unsolder the PU that's in place (here again) you'll have to indentify the leads and poles
cause you're gonna have to put that TT back in it's place
have you've soldered before ?
when your iron is hot don't forget to apply a bit of solder on it's tip before soldering on to something
Take it easy & apply yourself - don't rush
even if it takes you an hour and a half, you'll still end up spendin' many hours of joyfull pickin'

Thanks guys. I appreciate your help.
I hadn't soldered much, but I was a welder off and on for 30yrs. That might help.
all I have is a $5 soldering gun bought at walmart. I guess that will do the job?

Terry, Just ask Jerry Wallace and he will give you detailed instructions for your pickups and your guitar--He did it for me. Mike |
