I occasionally hear tech guys talk about replacing the caps of an amp. How long does it take for caps to wear out or get to the point where replacement is necessary? Can one really hear the difference? I've used the same Evans amp since 1987. Should I re-cap it? Whaddya think? |

Doug,
Electrolytic caps should be replaced every so often.
Read this thread and pay special attention to what Bill Hatcher says.

Brad Sarno just finished recapping and working on my '78 Webb...he brought back to its original great tone (maybe even better than new). By the way, Brad's "Black Box" is another item that will enhance your overall sound...thanks Brad. |

My amp tech told me I should replace the caps about every ten years or so to keep everything perfect.
I sure notice a difference when I get an amp back from him!
