Who has tried this tuner, and what do you think of it? It's a little pricy but is it worth it?

Getting this tuner(VS-II) is one of the best things I have done in a while!
My steel has never been so in tune,so easily,and sounded soooo good! And the presets are great or you can program your own and store them. Worth every penny.
What say the rest of you?

I purchased the VS-II right after getting my first pedal steel, so I haven't had the experience of tuning this guitar without it. But after tuning 6-string guitars with other blinky LED or needle tuners, I can say that this is a much improved method. It's very easy to tell when your getting close to pitch and when you're right on it, and as a beginner I tune up my steel in no time. It has preset tunings for E9, C6, and several other instruments built in, but with steel, for example, you can program in tuning adjustments for each string if you'd like. Really nice product.

Being a bit of a skeptic, I took one home from a local dealer for a few days "trial".
(He's a good friend but also felt that if I would try it, I'd like it.)

I have to tell you that this thing is so accurate that it bugged me. I monkeyed around with it thinking I could save better settings than were already programmed in for steel. No way. Those settings are just right for my guitar.

Took it out to a gig where I was sitting in for a friend and gave it a test in a performance setting. I have to tell you, I was never more "in-tune" with the band than that night.

I marched over to my dealer friend the next day with the cash. It is really worth it, and I spend a whole lot less time tuning.

I git the VS-II in preparation for getting my steel. So far I am well impressed with it. The only problem I have is remembering to turn it os and finding that the batteries are flat.

It does come with a wall wart, but that is US pins not UK.

Since I use the Newman temperments the VS-ll
is the best thing to come along in the way of tuning in years. No more charts to carry, just tune up. It is great for the whole band. I bought a Conn Strobatuner in the 70's and used it until about 4 years ago when I bought a Boss TU-12. The VS-II puts them all to shame but then again this is new technology. Try one out and you'll probably get one.

I would not leave home without it, to coin a phrase from somewhere.
I have the older VS-1, and I have a table of offsets that I use. I dial them in one at a time. The new gear makes that easier. I especially like the GTR temperment for six string, and I insist that my six string friends use it when they come to my house to play.

Wonderful invention.

FYI.There is a rack strobe tuner from Peterson.Been in the lineup for several years. Programmable. You load your own offsets.

I use the VS-I. Just As Ron Randall says, it's indispensable. Even though the VS-I doesn't have the presets, individual settings are easily dialed up and the result is the same as the VS-II. All of the tuners in the "VS" family are great. My only complaint about using the "VS" series tuners is with the guitar. The Peterson tuners are so accurate, it's sometimes difficult to get the tuning keys to adjust to the 1000th of a half-step resolution of the tuner (I try to get the "bars" on the LCD read-out to come to a complete standstill).

Glen S-You are correct-the Peterson tuners are actually more accurate than the tuning machines on many guitars-Even the Sperzels on my Millenium are only accurate to within about one cent-as you know the Peterson is accurate to 1/10th of a cent

I find that even if the strobe is not 100% stationary, you are still in much better tune than with any other type tuning devise. Just get it as close as you can to stopping.

Hi there...Our band openned for Billy Carrington and it was an outdoor concert and it was cool when the sun was behind the clouds and Hot when the sun was out and my steel was doing a tunning boogie and my VSII saved my butt. I also play guitar and when I tune with the temper tunning for guitar it dosn't get any better man you can really hear the sweet string seperation..it is a must.

I have not tried a Peterson tuner, I've had a Korg AT-12 for years and I'm thinking of changing. Since I have a single 12 B6 universal would I be as well off with a VS-I. It sounds like I would have to program it anyway? I like Newman's tuning chart.

Well I,m sold on it.
It,s easy to get stuck in the past useing outdated equipment.
To stay on the cutting edge you have to stay up with technology.

I just received mine last week - - bought it from forum member Chuck Campbell who has the best price that I have seen. Tried it on a gig Saturday night and I love it

No more needles that are hard to see. No more temper values to remember. Just pick the string and tune til the wheels stop moving and you're dead on. Two minutes max.

According to UPS Ground , I will have one delivered Friday 10 / 29 . I may have to come to some of you forum menbers who have these and know how to use them, for some instructions. I understand they come with Jeff's E-9th and C-6th already programed into them .I use his tunings for both.

My "poor old" Korg tuner model WT-10A I have had for probably 30 years, is ready to be retired. However, it is still operational
to a degree . It is time to move on to something more up to date as someone posted on this thread.

I'm glad to read that so many are happy with their's .

John, As a Peterson VS-ll owner, and like you a Newman tuning user, all I ever have to do is set it for E9th or C6th like the manual says, and start tuning. If the guitar or bass player wants to use it, set it to guitar or bass. It's relly pretty easy to use. There's lots of other things it can do, but this all I need. Best tuner I have ever used. It is really worth the money.
