Mike what was the difference in the old 1501 super structure and 1501DT super structure speakers? Were they both kevlar, was the rating different? They appear to be the about the same depth vs the shallow basket.

Long story, but I'll try to make it short and understandable..................

Back in the early 90's, our complete BW speaker line was changed and the cone was made of a KEVLAR impregnated material. That's when we changed the basket design on BW's from a shallow basket to a deep throat basket and developed the KEVLAR design. However, when it was determined that the paper cone was preferred for steel guitar applications, we continued to manufacture one model with the shallow basket design, the 1501-4.

The bottom line is that when we maintained the shallow basket for this BW, there were also some additional design changes and to distinguish the two 1501-4's, the newer one was labeled "SB" and has remained the same design since. All remaining BW's continue to use the "DT"(deep throat) design.

Hope this answers some of your questions. If you have additional questions, feel free to call me at 1-877-732-8391.

Thanks Mike, by this I guess it would be safe to say that any 1501 speaker with a deeper basket could be considered a DT even though it does not have a DT written on it.

Mike: Is the magnet still the same material? What type of magnet is used for the newer 1501-SB speakers?

The magnet is not of the neo type at this time. I hope that this answers your question?

Thank's Mike. I bought 2 new 1501-4 SB speakers about two months ago. I just put one in one of my amps and it sure sounds great.
