Sol Hoopii's classic 1930's arrangement of 12th Street Rag is now available on the HSGA website.

The first chorus was tabbed out by Bruce Clarke (Cumquat Records) in the Spring 2004 HSGA quarterly newsletter. Now the 2nd chorus from Summer 2004 newsletter is available as well.

Also, Gerald Ross' Hawaiian/Swing rhythm guitar workshop from the 2003 HSGA Joliet convention is available for download.

Note: Only the audio files are available online. The printed tab is in the newsletters.

Want the printed tab? Join the HSGA! (it's fun and easy )

Thanks Jeff.

Embellishing a simple 3 or 4 chord song with chord substitutions is very easy to do if you just take the time to dissect the basic structure, employ well established chord substitution rules and respect the overall feel of the tune.

Classic 1930/40's Hawaiian rhythm guitar harldy ever uses "straight" chords (G, C, D etc.) The chords are always embellished and substitutions are the norm. A typical G, C, D pattern might look like this...

Gmaj7, G6, Abdim, Am7, D7

I enjoyed reading the article ... On Playing the Steel Guitar "Hawaiian Style" ... in this Quarterly ...

I think leaving Andy Iona out of the "Elite" list ... must have been a typo ...
