Topic: New, Lighter Amps |

I want to move to a lighter amp, but I don't want to give up the great fidelty of my Evans 500 FET LV's.
How are the 112E's? Are they really that much lighter? Are there other amps out there that I'm missing?

Bud, I just gigged a 112 and it performed like a charm! I just used my PP and the amp and was very impressed! It is a lot lighter than most amps. Highly recommended!

I just got an Evans 200 se 2oo watts 15" eminience speaker It is the same size as my fet 500 and sounds just as good. but is not near as heavy. the magnet on the speaker is a lot smaller. I Sounds as good as nmy FET 500 and has the same power rating.

Love my Nashville 112. Great tone, light, all the ins and outs, good reverb, and it's the loudest 80 watts I have ever heard!

The Peavey 112 is first and foremost a Peavey. If you like the Peavey sound, then I would think you would like the 112. The highs aren't as searing and the bottom isn't super deep as a Nashville 1000, but overall the sound is tight, very pleasant, and balanced with a clear sounding middle, but with a slight "darkish" quality, something common to Peavey steel guitar amps. It actually is perfect for playing small-to-medium size clubs at medium to medium-high volumes. Keep in mind that this obviously is just how I hear it. Also, it's a pleasure to carry around being that it's light and not at all bulky like the 1000. I would certainly recommend it if you like Peaveys generally.

Thanks, everybody.
It's the searing highs and deep, clear bottoms of the Evans that I like. I prefer the Eminence speakers, too.
The Peaveys are great amps and I've owned one of every model (just about) over the years. The 112 may be the ticket...all things considered.

| If you want to keep the big amp/big speaker sound, but have a lighter load, you can take the chassis from any combo amp and put it in a head cabinet. You can make your own cabinet, or buy one from a company like MojoTone. You can leave the speaker in the old cabinet, or put it in a smaller light-weight cabinet like the ones made by Duane Marrs. You can then transport the amp and speaker in separate lighter trips, or put one in each hand for a balanced load. As a bonus, you can put your amp beside your guitar for easy tweaking, and postion your speakers anywhere you want back behind or even out front. |

Hey Bud, Remember me? I,ve still got the 2000, and have also got 2 of the 112s, but I also have a 1000. My wife and most of my friends think I'm nuts. You and I know better. But FWIW, don't give up that Evans

I have a Carvin SX-100 that has a great tone, has 2 channels, and only weighs 37 Lbs. It's a 100 watt amp. Carvin also gives you a 10 day trial from the day you receive the amp and if not totally satisfied, they will refund your money.
Carvin is a great under-advertised company and their gear is great. There was another thread about the Carvin Sx-100 earlier.
