| Does anyone own,and play one of these amps for lead guitar? I was looking at one here at a music store in town. Namely the Recto-Verb 112 combo,the "F" series,and the Maverick Design. I believe b0b uses one, but not sure which model. I'm curious as to the clean tones of these amps. Thanks in advance. |

i've had great success with the mesa/boogie road king. you can break it up into four different amps. you can select what power tubes are used for each channel. i use channel one for clean steel(4 6L6's and 2 EL34's), and the other three for screaming loud steel arrmageddon.
i also use a mark I and a mark III, they can both be switched to half power, but still need to be pretty loud to get a decent tone.
i've heard great things about the maverick, a buddy of mine had one and it sounds great for lead or rhythm.

They are heavy! I used to own a Mark I reissue.
Also, I feel that most of them don't do clean tone as well as most Fenders, but your mileage may vary. |

I use a Mesa Maverick prototype with a 12" Tone Tubby speaker. It's really sweet, and very lightweight for a tube amp.

The prototype Mavericks were built in the smaller standard Boogie 1x12 chassis. It came in a black cabinet, but I swapped it into a burgundy tolex cab I have that matches my Webb. The wider brown Mavericks are the same curcuitry, I think.
It has 4 EL84 output tubes. If Mesa calls it 35 watts, okay. I thought it was 40 watts, but no matter. It still sounds great.

I use a Mesa Boogie Mk IIC, simul-class. I bought it in 1983, not long after they started making them. This has to be one of the finest guitar amps ever made for a 6 string. It's heavy to pack around, but this thing will make you swallow your gum. It has wonderful tone, no matter what guitar I seem to plug into it.
I had a stupid attack once, in 96', and sold it to a good friend of mine for $600.00. Luckily, he was really a good friend and sold it back to me for the same $600.00 in 2002. I'll not be parting with her again.
