I know this has been asked before. However, I am looking for a distortion, not fuzz or metal head mush, that will have a thick "chain saw" growl.
Any thoughts? |

Have you tried a Fulltone Full-Drive 2?
I use one, so does Dave Zirbel from the Mother Truckers.

I second the Fulltone recommendaion. I carry one with me whenever I won't be playing one of my THD amps. One thing that I do is put the Fulltone post volume pedal, this way it more approximates the response of an amp.

| I'm having good luck with the "Route 66" overdrive/compressor pedal by Visual Sound. Two effects in one that can be used seperately or together. The compressor is particualarly nice for 6 string also! |

There's a whole bunch of pedals out there
these days that will do what you're looking
for. They're usually seperated into "overdrive"
pedals, "distortion" pedals, & "fuzz". Some even overlap into each other with slightly
more variable gain. Some color the original tone fed into it, some are more transparent. So.....you'd almost have to check them out before settling on one of them.
