Topic: Matchbox get rid of hum? |

Hi all. My Pro 1 has the original single coil pick up on it and its started to hum a bit. Do you think that a Goodrich Matchbox or possibly some other "noise removing" gadget or pedal would help? I have seen one made by Boss that claims to kill all hum and noise without altering your tone. What do you think?

Just my opinion but here goes....
A match box probably will not reduce hum but you may want to try it to see what happens. A noise gate will not let the noise through when you are not playing but as soon as you do the noise will be there. A noise gate may also color the original sound.
Check your connections and make sure you are using good quality cords. That's my 2 cecnts worth.

As Len stated, matchboxes and other devices placed in the signal-chain don't usually remove noise (they sometimes add it, or amplify noise you already have).
Use better cords and a better-shielded volume pedal, and do away with any "wall warts" you're using, and your noise may be reduced substantially. The move to a humbucking pickup will reduce noise even further, but at some sacrifice to tone and dynamics. |

I had a Pro I with the same problem. Turns out I had a break in the pickup winding. Bill Rudolph of Williams fame rewound it for me and it was quiet as a mouse.
