Has anyone played through one of these amps? Lead Guitar that is. THe Pro Reverb is a reissue, and the Custom Vibrolux is a a new genere I understand. I also understand that the Vibrolux will overdrive at higher volume levels.I think the Pro Reverb would make a nice jazz amp for guitar. Maybe even better if it had a 15" speaker in it.

Why get a mediocre and questionable reissue when you can easily find an original, better sounding, more reliable, point-to-point wired real deal for the same or less money?

I haven't met a Fender amp lover that's not at least somewhat dissapointed in the reissues. You just cant beat that old school build quality.

Find a '68-'71 original and you'll be happy. Great amps, the old Pro or Vibrolux.

Brad, I agree 100%. I was curious as to how these newer amps hold up. I'm told that these reissues are not handwired like the earlier models, but incorporate PC boards. I just wonder how they hold up under the heat from the tubes, and the rigors of the road?

I use a silverface Pro Reverb...1973. Great amp and they are available for about the cost of the reissue. A Pro is, basically, a 40 watt Twin. You can put a 15 in it with an offset baffle. It is a good idea to replace the original SF tranny with a slightly beefier one. The SF will probably increase in value while the reissue will probably decrease.

Kenny, I guess I'll jump into the fire on this one, and hope to get out alive..he he he.

I'm a Fender nut that has owned at one time or another or still do own:

(Black Face = BF Silver Face = SF)

BF Pro-reverb
BF Vibroverb
BF Vibrolux's
BF Princeton Reverb
BF Showman
SF Super Reverb
SF Twin Reverb

And just recently tried out the Super Reissue and the Pro reissue. I liked them both alot. I did not compare them directly to an original model. They definetly capture that old sound and magic.

The merits of point to point are arguable as well as PCB. But the merrits of the quality components of yesteryear and components of now are huge. The old amps used great military grade components, the new stuff uses a much less QC'd parts.

Can you hear the difference....well maybe, maybe not. Will there be a maintenence issue, maybe maybe not. Are the new ones as durable.....no way. Are they as reliable..depends on how well you test the durability issue.

SOUND>>>They sound great! They sound like old Fender amps. Do they sound exactly like the original, probably not. But then again what do you compare it to? I had two vibrolux's from the same year that did not sound the same!

Hi Joe. Thanks for your input,as to everyone else. I own several Peavey amps, and own one Fender Vibrosonic Reverb Amp that I bought new back in 1981. Still a great amp,and wouldn't part with it.I love the good ole' clean, warm tone of tubes.I've had it serviced once.
It seems to me that the newer reissue Fender amps are like a cross between the older Fenders because of the tubes, and Peavey amps because of the PC boards. Why wouldn't this be a good ideal? The heat from the tubes going up and maybe degrading the PC boards?
Cheap PC board components? I'd like to hear some more input on this. Thanks in advance.

The older Fenders are easy to maintain- a good tech can customize them to suit your tastes in a number of ways, by changing cap types and values, etc..Most of the silver panel CBS amps can be easily "De-CBS'ed" by a good tech for low bones, and will sound amazing. They are reliable and sound wonderful, and will continue to appreciate in value over time.

The newer ones are more difficult to service, with less options, and many of "us" feel the sound leaves much to be desired in contrast to the tonal response of the vintage amps.

That said, I DO like the Nashville 1000, especially for the low end of the C6. I wish I had an old Vibrosonic (or whatever the big guy with the 15" is) to run stereo with the 1000!

I have gigged with a Vibrasonic and a NV400 together. You will want to shut the Peavey off. Now two Vibrasonics, that's heaven.

The Custom Vibroblux Reverb is not a reissue. It is a wonderful amp and I like mine quite a bit. I do not use this amp for pedal steel though. I keep it in my studio for guitar work.

Hi Steve, Yes, I understand that the Custom Vibrolux is not a reissue. Does it incorporate hand wiring,or PC boards inside?
I was looking at one when I was at Sam Ash last week.
