I have a Peavey XR1200 D mixer with a broken Volume Slider. A mic stand fell on the board during transport and broke the stem off in the slider. Does any one know if this is a relatively easy thing to change out or should I look for a Peavey tech in my area?
Thanks

James, I replaced one in mine recently. I can truthfully tell you it was a pain even though I've done lots of electronic repairs in the past. The two (right & left) side bars have to come off, every control knob (there's 130 of them plus 16 input slider knobs) has to be removed, along with the 12 XLR mike input sockets, all 12 quarter-inch input nuts, all the small screws holding down the cover plate. Then carefully lift the top plate and inspect the bad slider control. If the mike hit the slider very hard, it could have broken the printed board. You can see this from the underside but you have to lift that board by disengaging the small hold-down locks (takes a special tool). If there's no break in the board you can get another from Peavey and install it yourself. If there is a break you'll have to replace the board or MAYBE run a jumper wire across the break.
Any way you look at it it's a pain in the you-know-where but you can do it if you have the time and patience. Better than having to box it up and send back to Peavey. Be sure to take your medication BEFORE you begin. Good luck! Tom

Tom, Thanks for the reply. I somehow broke the knob off the right side. It snapped the shaft just above the slider housing. I spent over $100 getting it fixed, plus I had to do with out it for a month waiting on the part. I had it back less than a month and broke the left side. I don't think the board is broken, I can us a paper clip to adjust the level okay, it broke the slider shaft off just above the slider housing, just like the first one. I was thinking I could order the part direct from Peavey, take it apart some weekend and fix it my self. Still worth the effort to eliminate the "sitting in the shop while the part gets here" wait. Thanks for the post.

James, Sounds like you will have to replace the entire slider control. After re-reading my post I missed a few more small things to remove, but you'll see them as you go. If you can still control the volume the board is OK. I had the same problem of protecting my 1200D so wound up buying an exercise pad from K-Mart. The width fits between the two arms on each side of the 1200D and wraps around and comes with two elastic lops (one on each side) that I hook to the arms of the 1200D. Keeps all the controls protected plus keeps dirt and dust out. Be happy to e-mail you a photo of it. Since the band I had is no longer together, I'm thinking of selling the 1200D. If you're interested let me know. Tom

Tom, I forgot to ask, what is the special tool to release the locks you mentioned in the first post? I think I am going to get this thing fixed and do like Erv and invest in a box or case of some kind, although it might be a less expensive to get the exercise pad. I only move the board outside the shop 2 or 3 times per year. Thanks for the replies Tom and Erv.
