Standel Artist 12, does anyone know about them?
One for sale locally, have seen people with good things to say about Standel SS amps. It's supposedly a piggy back, but I don't know what the output is like, or speaker configuration. Anyone know about these? Mid Sixties, I am told. Before I go for a ride out to see and try it, any feedback?
Thanks all.
Thanks all.

Go to The Requisite Audio Website and browse around. A lot of Standel information.

Pretty good sound, but not very much power by today's standards. Some came with reverb, too. One big drawback (for steel use) was their lack of a mid-range control on most of their amps. As far as the SS amps go, used prices are low for both versions (combo or P/B), and run from $75 to about $250. Very difficult to service (if you buy one, make sure everything works).

Actually, apparently the service problem is no longer really an issue. From what I understood, the difficulty was that the SS Standels couldn't be repaired because of the epoxy coated modules. Now, however, all the schematics for all of the epoxy wrapped circuits are on the Standel website; apparently any tech with some skill can build a replacement board.
Talked to Dan Mckinney yesterday at Standel, and he was really helpful and interested; even though I represented exactly $0.00 to him. Nice thing to see...

You're right. Danny is very responsive. Wish I could afford a new 25L15.

On many Standels, tube & solid state, there's a "contour" control which actually acts as a middle control. On the new 25L15's it's much more subtle than on the old ones. I used to have an old tube 80L15 with a contour control and adjusting it made quite a difference in tone. I didn't use it much though, cause I liked the sound better without emphasizing it.
Is that Artist 12 really a piggy back? I always thought they made those just as combos.

Jussi, I only know what the guy is posting in the description... I'd rather it be piggy back, because I can use a different cab with it in that case... I have an older Peavey Session 400 LTD for loud stuff, so it would be nice to have something smaller with a different sort of character.
Larry, don't despair! You don't need to get a new one... you can get an old one on the cheap! Dan Mckinney mentioned that Speedy West's old Standel is on sale right now... for a mere $40,000!!! Jump on it, it's going going going...
