Depends on how much you want to sound like a real Leslie.
It does it. And it costs about $400. Depends on what that's worth to you.
Settings depend a lot on what you want to do with it and what you're running through. It sounds really great in stereo, but lowest noise is obtained in an Fx loop on your amp or processor. Unfortunately, most fx loops are mono. Sounds great any way I've ever used it.

After a long period of indecision, I bought one a month ago. $340 from Zzounds.
I really like it and I am getting some good reactions from fellow musicians. Comes in handy on jazz and blues gigs, especially.
Still working with it, of course, to find out what the controls do. I use it mono into a Nashville 112, from a Carter S 12 with extended E 9. Chord melody stuff is really thickened up with the Rotosphere.
Next in the effects change is a phse shifter. The Rotosphere into a slow phase is pretty wild.
A side benefit is the cool purple lighting, plus neato flashing LEDs.

I'm finding my best sound with all 3 controls at about 12 o'clock. I run it in the effects loop of my Mesa/Boogie amp.

I run mine pretty close to Bobby's suggested settings. Mine are 1 O'clock, 11, O'clock and 12 O'clock.
I do love the sound and have been using mine for a few upbeat country, blues, and rock and roll, of course.
