I bought this guitar a few years ago at a pawn shop, I think. Didn't pay much for it, and haven't played it much. It's not in great shape, but still plays well and sounds pretty good.
Pictureshere
I was led to beleive this is a 1956 model, any way to figure that out? There are 7 strings up front and 8 in the back.
My biggest problem with this guitar is the legs. Nothing is currently mounted to the bottom of the guitar for legs, but there are three large holes in the bottom, so I'm assuming it originally had 3 legs. I have 3 mismatched pieces of mounting hardware and two adjustable pedal steel type (screw in) type legs, which I don't think are original.
So, I guess I'm looking for help in getting this guitar "back on its feet" so to speak. Suggestions, parts, etc?
Also, what are/were the common tunings of these two necks. I'm assuming E13 up front and A6 in back?

Is Mike the guy that used to be at Cliff Archer's in Tower? Played left handed? If he is, I didn't know he was still in town. And, yes I know right where Backline is.
I'm not sure what thread the legs are, I don't have them here with me, but I'll check. All the leg parts are mismatched, I'm not even sure if the two legs match.

So the legs might be mismatched!
Think how YOU'D feel, if you were like "Ilene" and her Oriental girlfriend "Irene".
Things could get worse. |

If it looks like your guitar only had 3 legs, it is older than 1956. I have a couple of 3 legged Console Grandes and they are from around 1948. I don't know when they went to 4 legs but I'm sure somebody will chime in and let us know.

Then I have talked to Mike before, and he does know his stuff. I'll have to go see Cliff. Bought a lot of gear from him over the years. Was a shame to see his shops go. |

It appears to be from between 1948 (when the Console Grand was reintroduced after WWII) and 1953 (when they added another leg to the three that were introduced in 1938).
1956 - 1967 Console Grands have two humbuckers with "4-8-4 pole" configuration. |
