Last night I used my Fender Hot Rod Deville 2x12 amp for double duty, Tele' and Steel..I didn't really want to carry two amps for a moderate venue.
I gotta tell ya..the Steel sounded great !
Very nice headroom with the 60 watt Deville and the bottom end was strong. As typical with Fender tube amps, you can roll the mids to wherever you feel.
True if I had to play with more volume then the N1000 would have been the right amp, but I was pretty impressed with the 2x12 Deville...
Oh yeh, I swapped chords between the Tele' and Steel for the single input and not far into the gig I found a nice compromise in tone for both Instruments..Lately I have been adding bottom end to the Tele' anyway so this worked out pretty good..
I had previously used my 40 watt Hod Rod Deluxe with a single 12 extension speaker
for double duty on the small gigs but the little HRDlx could not really handle the low octave on the C6th neck. Sold it and moved up to the Deville..It's like night and day for the bottom end..
think I'll do it again tonight...
Does this mean I'm headed back to a Twin..where I was for 25 years ? Or maybe one of them Custom Vibrasonics ? Maybe so..
The only problem I have with those amps is they are difficult to get an edge tone for the Tele' at lower volumes...and that is mandatory for me..
you never know though...
I sure like this Hot Rod series though..

Ihave been thinking about trying one of those
two-12 amps myself for a while.Were you playing any C6 stuff,and if so was there
enough bottom end?....Thanks

Larry, yes the bottom end is very clean at moderate volume, but not the same as compared to a N1000 or a Twin at higher volume levels. Remember it is only a 60 watt amp with a bunch of overdrive for the 6 stringers...

Tony I too have used the Deville 212 and was
very pleased. It has an edge for steel that
was ok and it held up with the low A on C6. |

| I think the thing that makes the Blues- and HotRod- series work so well is the tone circuitry on them. They use a 25Kohm pot for Mids instead of 10K that's found on a lot of other Fender amps. I also found the bottom a little weak on the Blues/HotRod Deluxe. Replaced the speaker with an EV12L and fixed it right up, not to mention the extra volume. |
