I was wondering how that would work,
would it be possible to have 2 amp heads,
and one speaker cabinet, and then use
an A/B switch to switch between the heads?
Would there be any problems with having
speaker cables running thru an A/B box.
thanks in advance,
Jesse

I think you'd need a 'special' AB box with relays to do the switching, instead of the little Push/Push mechanical switch.
A buddy showed me a schematic for one a while back that actually switched both heads and speakers.. i.e. either head with either cab. I forgot what I did with it.. maybe somebody else has seen it? |

Would it put stress on the head with no load on it?

Any tube amp, if not connected to a speaker, when in 'play' mode must have a load on it otherwise you'll damage the amp. Solid state amps are different. Most techs advise against setups like this due to potential switching/standby mishaps and resulting large repair bills. If you do it, have someone who is really ultra-knowledgeable set it up for you.

ok here is another take,
what about having both amp heads
connected to the speaker at the same time,
I really dont need to switch, they coud both be
on at the same time.
would that work,
impedence problems?

Jesse, don't do that... you'll have the outputs of each amp connected, almost sure to damage one or both.
The design I saw had relays that totally switched out the unused amp, and I think it had dummy loads that were in circuit on the 'disconnected' side. I'm still looking, I think I've got it somewhere.[This message was edited by Bill Terry on 14 August 2003 at 02:32 PM.] |

Your best bet is a stereo speaker cabinet. One speaker per amp, still conveniant with a single cabinet.
