I am building a bass cab with a 15" woofer and a piezo horn tweeter. I understand piezo drivers don't require crossovers so I guess i don't need a L-pad type pot. Was thinking of using a 100kohm audio taper. Not real sure on the power rating. I've seen them rated at .5 or 2 watts. Also how would i wire it? |

The tweeter WILL require a "non-polorized" cap in series with it,as to not burn it out due to a large signal hittin' it.
It can be a low value cap,it's main function is to stop the hi-current to the tweeter(which dosen't have a voice-coil).
I guess my question is:
Why do you wish to put a tweeter in a bass cabinet ??

I just noticed a lot of bass cabinets have them now. I might just leave it out. |

Looks like the L-pad is the way to go. I thought they were just used with crossovers but it looks like what i need. They come in different ohm and watt ratings depending on your speaker rating. I'll also add the protection cap if my tweeter needs it. |

Well, I'm sure you won't have much luck using a 1/2 watt pot, since even a signal of 1 or 2 watts would fry it in short time. The wattage rating of the L-pad control (they're usually wirewound pots, by the way) should equal the power that the driver will be likely to handle. I'd use at least a 5-watt (wirewound) L-pad pot, or power resistors. Like Bill said, you should have the non-polarized cap (or back-to-back electrolytics) in there, too.
Be advised, though, that piezos are very directional, so proper dispersion (when used with a 15" bass speaker) is going to be difficult to maintain. |

Piezo tweeters are voltage driven. Usually they can only handle about 25V max. Using the frequency capacitor keeps all the lower frequencies down, which usually decreases dramatically the voltage seen at the driver. |
