I have SEVERAL 8 track tapes that I'm attempting to transfer over to CD. However, the silver sensor tape, that causes the tracks to change,is drying out,& not sticking. I need to find a supplier that has this product. I found one in the NashVILE area, but he wants $16+ for 150 ft. I don't need that much. Can ANYBODY help me on this problem?? Thanx.

Hey Smiley,
Alot of harware stores have alumium foil tape right next to the goose tape (duck tape? ).
Also check the hobby shop for pin striping tape.

Try Eddie Warner - they usually have plenty such items in surplus - they're on 8th Ave South at Cannery Row.

Smiley, I'm sure you are talking about the foil has turned loose from either OR both ends of the tape. If so I take rubber silicon, maybe automotive or home use, and GENTLY using a toothpick, put a thin layer and I mean thin to the mating faces, mash together, line them up and let dry. Any that squeezes out cut off with a blade or scissors and presto. It is pliable and being as it is a rubber it will make all the turns in and out of the cassette. used it for years. but try not to let any get on the outer face of the foil.I'll be comin to Nashville in a couplle of weeks and if you don't have it done yet let me know and I'll bring you a tube AND even do a few for you. You can also do this even if the foil is gone, BUT you'll ahve to change tracks your self. THAT IS MY TIP OF THE DAY |

Smiley, Pete B's got a good suggestion
there's aluminium tape w; adhesive backing that's used for roof isolation (roofmate)
that could do the trick
hardware or construction furnishing stores
Good luck

If you need any help fixing the tapes, contact me. I have fix hundreds of them. you may need to do a few other things to them before you record them, like new foam pads, adjusting the tension, etc. I have a huge collection of 8 tracks, including many steel guitar tapes. I know thats kind of weird to think that someone collects these things, but they are fun to listen to in their orgininal format. |

Smiley; Have you tried Auto-Zone or other auto-parts place? Is it anything like Pin-Striping? I may be way off base, but then; I don't know much about baseball either!

John.........
The Pin-strippin' stuff is generally made of plastic material. It will not work for what Smiley needs.
Just a thought from a "Teckie" type guy here.
