Can anyone tell me the differance between the Session 400 LTD and the Session 400 Limited?
It looks to me like there are more inputs on the Limited.
Is one better than the other?

Trademark model names can get confusing if you are not familiar with them. In the 1970's, we offered two models of steel guitar amps which were the Session 400 and the LTD 400. These were identical amplifiers, only the LTD 400 was physically smaller(approximately the same size as a Nashville 400).
The Session 400 "Limited" was an updated version of the original Session 400, only by that time IC technology had been introduced to the world and our product line was geared toward that technology. We also added some patch points and other features to the Session 400 Limited.
Also, "LTD" is an abbreviation of "Limited", so one could be referring to the same amp.

Does the LTD need modded? I have one I bought new in early 1980 and it still sounds great. I wouldn't touch it.

The only mod's you want to do to an old Session or LTD would be to replace the power supply filter capacitors with some of a bigger value. Also, old filter caps go bad so it's good to replace them anyway since they're about 25 years old now. Putting a larger value in there helps provide a bit more reserve "punch" on those loud low notes and C6 chords. Also there are some 2uF electrolytic capacitors in the preamp signal path that could stand to be replaced with some better sounding film cap's. These are considered upgrades as opposed to "modifications". I agree with Jim that you really dont want to alter the design of these classics. The cap upgrade merely helps the Session/LTD sound more like it wants to, a bit cleaner, warmer, sweeter, but with absolutely no changes to the actual voicing or function of the amp.

I think Darvin wrapped this one up in one statement, "I wouldn't touch it!". That is what I've been hearing as well, so we haven't touched the design either.
There is always going to be that "elusive" sound.

I think that I bought mine in 1975.
