I just won a Boss CE-5 chorus ensemble pedal on eBay with the intentions of using it mainly for my lead guitar playing.

Just out of curiosity, any of you ever used a chorus pedal with your steel? Any good results?

Thanks,
Bryan

Many folks feel that a chorused sound is 'dated' or old fashioned. It's true that many notable players kinda wore out the phase shifter or chorus in the late 70s and 80s, but I feel there's still a place for a subtle (or not so subtle) chorus in a steel player's bag of tricks. On the subtle side, a stereo chorus to two amps can make the steel sound big as all outdoors -- if not overdone. On the not so subtle side, I use chorus/phaser sounds on rock and rockabilly tunes pretty often and like the edge it gives. I especially like a little chorus with a single slapback delay on rockabilly style tunes. Just my personal opinion.

I'll use a chorus occasionally, when I need a "spacious" sound. A mono chorus (phase shifter) works great when driven by a fuzz...instant "heavy metal"! I used to use that on a few "hard-edge" songs, like La Grange, Sweet Home, and HOTRS.

nobody did it better than Sonny Garrish. I never could figure out exactly what he used but it had to be some kind of chorus effect.
