Much has been said about patching a volume pedal into the f/x loop on the front of Peavey amps. This should do away with the need for a buffer amp (matchbox).
My old Evans FET-500 has f/x In and Out jacks on the front. Does anyone know if the internal circuitry would accomplish the same thing that the Peavey amps do?

Well, now I can answer my own question.
These In and Out jacks were not designed for a volume pedal. I tried it tonight and it just does not work well at all. With the volume pedal backed off to less than one-half volume, the reverb is almost all gone, there is very little treble, and lots of distortion. As I pressed on the volume pedal, the reverb started to come up, the treble started to come back in, and the distortion decreased. That's right. Low volume created the most distortion. High volume decreased the distortion.
Maybe one of you tech guys could splain why.

Hi Lee,
The Volume pedal loop on Peavey amps is inserted before the preamp/effects/reverb.
The Evans effects loop is after the preamp/effects/reverb, thus causing you to lose your verb and tone when you back off your pedal.
This is my basic formula for hooking up effects and volumes to my guitars.
Compression (if desired)/
Overdrive/
Wah (if desired)/
Volume/
Chorus-flange/
Delay/
Reverb
Only in that order.
This has worked for my guitar setup for many years. The volume loop is a nice fancy feature and some guys swear that is helps their tone. But many more don't use it or even have it, (Fender, Evans, Older Peaveys) and I haven't heard very many complaints. Buddy didn't have it in '68, I guaronteeeee!
My favorite setup consists of my Emmons P/P, Goodrich Match Bro, Emmons volume pedal, Boss RV-3 (Delay only) and my old Fender Dual Showman Reverb. I love the tone I have been getting.
