I have an old Edwards Photo Cell Volume/Tone Pedal that really sucks the life out of my pick up, and is about unusable today.

I would like to get it up to spec so to speak. But I am not well versed in Electronics.

SO, my questions/requests for help is.

Where can I find a new photo cell for this pedal?

Should I replace the capacitor(and with what type)?

Should I change the light buld type, or just get an auto mobile #57 and use it?

Should I plan to do anything esle to it, to try to solve the problems?

Thanks in advance for you help.

Best regards,

Pat

Pat the only way to keep the electronics in the Edwards light beam pedal from sucking the highs out of your pickup is to put a high input impedance pre-amp before them. These pedals had no pre-amp and that was what caused the loss of highs, better known as "tone sucking!" There is no other way of doing it that I know of. Hope this information helps.

Keith,

Thank you for the response. I understand that this pedal has this effect on the High output of the pickup. But my Uncle who gave this to me claims that it used to work much better than it does now. I hope that I can atleast get it back to a usable condition by replacing some of the old parts (if for nothing more than giving him the opportunity to use it again for sentimental reasons).

And by the way your Low Profile Hilton Pedal is on my wish list this year, but will have to wait until I get my New Zum paid for.

Thanks again,

Pat

Pat,
Have you tried the Hilton pedal

Brother it's the best innovation for the steel guitar since the 3rd pedal.

Once you've tried one you'll never use anything else.

could it be the bulb is to bright, bringing down the resistance, with the pedal in series (normal operation)and backed off, and with the guitar bypassing the pedal straight to the amp....shouldn't these two volumes be nearly the same, I like the idea of a preamp, as in sending the pedal an active signal, I used to like light pedals, but gutted mine and changed it to a 500 k-ohm pot, much better

I'm with Graham, once you've tried the Hilton pedal, there's no turning back.
