I picked up this killer little Gretsch labeled Valco Dual-Twin at the vintage guitar show a couple weeks ago. It has two original 6973 power tubes that look like EL84's (the sockets have tube type stenciled right on the chassis). In the new VG mag I found NOS 'RCA and GE relabled Westinghouse' for $29 each. Anyone else know of another source for these tubes or have any opinions on them? I'm not going to change a thing; I'd just like to have spares.
The amp sounds killer for 'dirty' rhythm guitar and breaks up really sweet and early on - no clean headroom here. FTR, it's the split chassis with the power amp in the bottom. Has two gold label Jensen C-10R (date codes 1966), tremolo with speed and intensity controls (superb and footswitchable), reverb (not so great and footswitchable), 5U4 tube rectifier and massive output transformer.

| I had a Supro twin amp from around 64 and it had that 6973 tube driving the reverb and 6V6's in the output. It took me a while to find that tube as the reverb wasn't working when I got the amp. I didn't like it at all, and quickly unloaded it. |

| The 6973's were usually used in hi-fi gear, as they were very linear and clean. Although capable of excellent fidelity, they don't really produce much power, by today's standards (that's why you had them breaking up so easily). A pair will give you about 20-25 watts, max, running in push-pull...and less in other configurations. |

Yes, Bob, that's it! Is that yours? Steve, it sounds great at low volume (it doesn't get very loud). Looking forward to cutting some tracks on it. I finally have a new recorder on the way and plan to get busy in the home studio to complete some delayed projects.
