Mooney's new Delay unit

Did anyone in Dallas notice Mooney using the new Danelectro Reel Echo? It's a cool tape echo emulator. It even has a switch to go from a tube sounding mode to a solid state sounding mode. The delay time is on a slider like the old tape units. I haven't played with one yet myself.

Mooney had a LOT of delay in his sound.

I have one of those and I think it's a killer unit. I also have Dano's Spring King reverb and THAT one I really like ( my amp does not have a reverb ).

I was in a studio for a 'quickie' jingle session the other day and they had one. The typical Dano retro look and the slider a la Echoplex is cool. I messed around with it for 15 minutes or so, but kinda concluded that a delay is a delay - the SpringKing reverb is its companion product. Seems like they're trying to capitalize on the retro sound, but it's a personal judgement call how desirable that is.

To me, switching to the 'tube' setting did little more than add white noise to the sound and the 'warble' switch emulated Echoplex noise that was the reason I got rid of my Echoplex in the 70s when the first analog electronic delays became available. Maybe that's what some folks are looking for.

I usually opt for a single multi-fx device and my Boss GT-6 is doing the job of a half dozen stompboxes, so it's not something I'm personally gonna run right out and buy. For $199 it's a pretty good buy. 1.5 seconds of delay and a loop/'sound on sound' feature are other pluses.

I picked up the Dano Reel Echo yesterday for $99 including power adapter. The Solid State/Tube switch does seem useless, as does the Warble switch.

But other than that, it's a good echo unit. Simple and easy to operate. I'm using it with my combo amp and I love it.

Still trying to get things going satisfactorily with my Lexicon MPX-1 in my rack set-up.
I'm getting there, but not there yet. The Dano is working good for me.

There's something to be said for a simple knob that's easy to reach for, especially when dialing in delay times and volume.
