| Mike Brown suggested I use the 5 cord method for patching in my volume pedal...I have done this and it works well. I have varying reports on how to get the most out of this amp and some suggested using the traditional method of steel..volume pedal...amp. Any opinions? |

I've used the 3 cord hook-up method with very good results, but I've never heard of a 5 cord hookup. Could you elaborate on that?

For a "3 cord volume pedal patch, only three cables are needed. However, if you also have an effects device, I suggest that the POST EQ PATCH be used.

I had another conversation w/ Mike Brown today and he was was helpful, available and courteous..Just to clear up some potential confusion the 5 cord patch, I referred to was due to the fact that I added an effects loop which required the additional 2 cords.

I recently got a Nashville 400 and I'm still trying to figure out the various ways to connect. Is the 5 chord hookup Craig is using only possible on the 1000 and not on the 400?

Not necessily. But, we are speaking of the Nashville 400 and the Nashville 1000 amps. The 400 has the PRE EQ PATCH for your volume pedal, and a PRE AMP OUT and POWER AMP IN insert point.
The 1000 also comes equipped with the PRE EQ PATCH for your volume pedal, a POST EQ PATCH for effects and also the PRE AMP OUT and POWER AMP IN jacks on the rear panel.
So, the PRE EQ PATCH is recommended to be used for a volume pedal insert, the POST EQ PATCH for effects devices, but you could also use the POWER AMP IN and PRE AMP OUT jacks to insert your effects device as well. The difference is that the POST EQ PATCH is after the eq controls but before the reverb and master controls.
There are a number of ways to connect your pedals and devices, but normally you would want your volume pedal after the first gain stage of the amp(after pre gain control on both models) and the preference is to place your effects devices after(post eq) the equalization circuit, which is what is happening with these amps.
The PRE AMP OUT signal is from the PRE AMP but before the POWER AMP. |
