Yes I know this is not a steel guitar but I had a friend ask me to try and find out about a pickup he just bought so I will ask and hope someone can help.
He was told it is a mini humbucker out of a 74 gibson les paul, or a soapbar, and all we have to go by is the patend number on it which is---2737842 if you know or can get me to the right place it would be of great help to my friend, and thanks so much.

Try this Bill,
http://www.guitarsite.com/discussion/messages/30357.shtml
It mentions your patent number as a Gibson Pickup, patented in '62 but could be a later model.
In a book I have entitled "The Illustrated Directory Of Guitars" edited by Ray Bonds, the mini humbucker was used by Gibson in Firebirds from 1965 on, and on the Les Paul Deluxe from 1971 to 1982. It shows a 1971 LP Deluxe with mini's stamped with the Gibson Logo.
Is this pickup for sale??
I hope this helps.

I think I read somewhere that Brent Mason has one of these in his old primered Tele. Maybe thats part of his magical sound.

I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but a mini-humbucker and a soapbar are two different things.
The mini-hummer has a silver cover and was used in the Les Paul Deluxes. I believe that it is a dual coil pickup with polepieces. This is the Brent Mason pickup. Very simialr to this is the Firebird pickups, which have no pole pieces and a plain metal cover.
The soapbar has a white plastic cover with polepieces and was used on the Les Paul Pros and others. It is a single coil. Similar pickups with black covers were used on SGs and other guitars.
Hope this helps.

The Mini Humbucker is a smaller than a standard humbucker. It sets down the body with plastic around it that it mounts in with height adjustments for the pickup itself. It has a chrome cap witha a row of adjustable screws that are off center and come through the cover, and another coil that is under the cover that has non adjustable pole pieces. The Soapbar is a single coil puckup with a plastic cover and it has a row of screws in the center and ears to screw on top of the body. It is flat and has no height adjustments for the puckup itself only the pole adjustments. Hope this helps.

The Les Paul mini-humbuckers were a small humbuckers in a plastic surround piece that was actually the same size as the soapbar P90 pickup covers. It was a way to put a humbucker in a P90 pickup cavity without having to carve it out to accomodate a regular humbucker pickup. |

They have a bad habit of squealing, too, although Barry Bailey got some really nice sounds out of them with Atlanta Rhythm Section. |

I have a Seymour Duncan Mini HB in the neck position of my old Tele. I would like to find another one for my G&L ASAT. A full size HB is too thick sounding but the mini is just right. Just ask Joe Glaser and Brent Mason.
