| In my humble opinion, at an $11,000 starting bid this amp should probably be called a "Dumb bell" amp. I'm certain it's a high quality amp, but the marginal benifits would not appear to be there for most of us. I know some of the pro guitar players like Robben Ford use or used them. Still, if you have the dough.... |

Wow! Wonder what one with reverb and the Glockendeke speakers would cost??? Probably 20-30 grand, I guess.
Still, if you're worried about tone...two of them babies would be beaudacious.  |

Well agreed, $11,000 is not in the same class as our Fender Twins......or our Peavey Nashville 1000's...BUT.....
If you are a mainliner like Larry Carlton or Robben Ford and you WANT that tone and that premium above all else quality..then
by all means hit the bid button.
For me...I'll just look at the photo thank you very much.....but I still want to sound like Robben....even if I am playing thru a $500 Fender Deluxe
I'm thinking of someone palces a hi bid of say $22,000 they will probably win it ! ya think !!

I think maybe a studio or high-class rental place will get it.
If you can rent it out to master sessions at $1K/week it's a bargain.

Years ago, I could have bought one of the brown covered ones that had the speaker and head in the same cabinet. It was $5k at the time. The next time I saw it, it was $7k and the last time I saw it, it was $14k.
Evidently, Vibrasonics are in the $2500-$3500 range now. I have a MacIntosh 275, that I paid $275 for in 1969 that's supposed to be worth $5000. It's not for sale.
There was an article in the paper this week about the Getty Museum trying to purchase a painting for $50 million. It's just money, and some people have so much that it doesn't matter. The Dumble probably sounds better than a pile of paper money. |

I played a Dumble for a couple of weeks when I played with the Sweethearts of the Rodeo in a house gig in LA it belonged to Leanord Arnold of the band Blue Steel (the other guitar player was Vince Gill). It sounded OK but I wasn't overly impressed. Design wise it is basically a blond fender showman with some overdrive stages. I have a showman I bought for $500 that I would stack against any Dumble for clean sounds. For overdriven sounds I prefer my THD Univalve (listing for a grand) or Bivalve (listing for something like $1700). This whole thing is a matter of supply and demand, anyway.

Practically speaking its ridiculous amount,
investment wise its not so "dumb" le, There
were around 75 made, elite players use them,
they sound unique, listen to Robbin Ford's
cut Politician, its a Holy Grail tone, much
like Van Halen's Plexi or say a Trainwreck.
I had a chance to play the Dumble owned by
the Guitarist for MR MR , believe me its
special, having said that what Dan said is true about supply and demand, the short supply is the driving force.
Investing in one is crazy but maybe not so
dumb, Dumble's and Trainwreck's have'nt
"Corrected" near as much as most blue chip

Ah yes..The Holy Grail tone..Lets not forget the incredible tone to die for on " Strong will to Live " which is on the Robben Ford Handfull of Blues CD. Dumble all the way..well it helps if your Robben I suppose...
IF I was gigging in a showcase band regularly and actually making money, that would be the key..making money...I would have one of those Dumble amps in a hearbeat. Like Greg stated , it's an investment where the return will be realized.
Who would have thunk that an $11,000 guitar amp would sell on EBAY...hello Paypal ? I need to raise my spending limit !
Geeze ...I sold my 89 Corvette for $14,000 and that was a whole car !

Hottdamm has some bucks!
Besides the Dumble, in the last 2 months he's bought a Vox AC30 for $2775, two Gibson PAF humbuckers for $1000+, a Supro Thunderbolt amp for $1000, a Supro lapsteel and amp combo for $500, and various other items at "money is no object" prices.
Gotta offer that guy a few 1965 Emmons guitars, bargain priced at $20K... each, of course.
