I am new to steel, but I made a discovery last night that I though I would pass along.

I have a Peavey Bandit amp (12" scorpion speaker) that I have had about twelve years. It has traveled many miles with me and has provided great service for me and my Les Paul and Telecaster. But when I got my Carter steel back in February, it sounded awful through the Bandit; very harsh.

So I bought an old Peavey Deuce; 120 watts of raw unadulterated tube power. I also purchased a Digitech guitar processor. I was able to get great sound from my steel with this equipment. But that Deuce is a back-breaker to say the least.

I have been wanting to go back to a lighter amp. Well, last night I dug the old Bandit out of the closet and plugged my steel and Digitech processor into it. With the processor, I was able to make that Scorpion speaker sound great. I will be using the Bandit again.

So, any of you who are seeking a lighter amp, and have an old Bandit in the closet, try putting some type of processor between the guitar and amp. You might be surprised.

I've been using my 80Watt Bandit 112 W/Shefield 12"speaker running through a Boss RV-3 and really like it alot. The best part is the amp is about the same weight as my pac-a-seat full of stuff! LOL

I must admit that after hauling the P.A. system, wife's keyboards I've used my trusty Peavey Bandit for double duty on guitar and steel and it works out just fine at the Legion, however bigger clubs and venues I usually opt for my Nashville 400
