Thanks to Jody Sanders I just found out what Ralph Mooney's little gaget is: Dan- E lectro
"Real Echo Box" I assume this has been out
for some time, or has it?? Would the RV-3
sound as good as this?? Thanks for your feed back. |

| You're probably talking about their new "Reel Echo", a tape echo simulating unit. It has controls like on the old Echoplexes and you can even choose a sound between a tube or solid state unit. Works like a tape echo, except there's no tape. Like all Dano stuff, it's probably true value for the money. They also have a similar spring(less) reverb unit. I'm anxious to try one out, they should be available here any day now! |

Actually the "Spring King" reverb does

The Dec. issue of Guitar Player magazine had a review of this box and also their new spring reverb unit.
It was a favorable review, but did not get their "Editors Pick" status.
It sounds as if their attempt to recreate the classic "Echoplex" tonal fingerprint might add a bit too much color for a PSG players attempt for clean clear sound, but you never can tell till ya try it.
Let us know if ya get one!

I use a Dan-Echo stomp box and it gives a great sound. I looked and tried a lot of different units, but this one wqas the best by far.
Just my $0.02 worth.

The review mentioned that the "Dan-echo" had already pretty much nailed the "echoplex" sound. i hve heard these before and they do sound noce and warm.

With the DanEcho you are using, is it the 9v powereed or the one that takes 2 9v batteries?
My company has teamed up with VoodooAmps to produce a delay pedal for guitar that nails the echoplex tones (including tape overload), and is currently 9v powered (recommended to use an AC adapter, since at about 25mA current draw, batteries dont last the longest. We have been debating on whether or not to offer a "higher headroom" version to handle line level signals, Bass, keyboards and/or pedal steel, If there is any interest in this, let me know. As any manufacturer/designer of any product, we are VERY proud of this delay pedal.
As a side note, I have used the one I use for guitar on the pedal steel, and the verdict is out for the amount of headroom... sometimes I like the overload artifacts, sometimes I don't, so I"m going to be trying to up the supply to get a tad more headroom out of it. |

Oh wait people. You all gotta check out the SIB Echodrive. I think it's the best Echoplex emulator out there. It's got a tube line stage so your guitar signal is ALL tube. The echo circuit is a digital emulation of the Echoplex. Very true to the original. The echo gets mixed back in thru a tube with the dry signal. The sound is amazing, the best I've heard. SIB is a small company but the quality is excellent. Handbuilt in the USA.

This is interesting. I have a '60s Echoplex, and having listened to the demo of the Danelectro on the Guitar mag CD the thing that's missing is the change in the original dry signal as well as the echo character. Mine seems to give a level boost as well as a much more aggressive character, especially in the treble range.
Or my Echoplex is broken....
