Hi Everyone,
I was in a guitar store today, and the guy had a Peavey LTD 400 amp there. It had a old 8 ohm JBL speaker in it. I didn't play anything through it to see how it sounded yet. I asked the guy how much he wanted for it and he said $150. Is that price high or low???? It looked like it was in pretty decent shape.

| That's a great price. The speaker should be 4 ohms. No matter, it will work at 8 ohms and give about 130 watts RMS. Great deal! |

| Not that I recall. You might listen for hum in the audio, indicating time for a cap job! Due to the age of the amp, a cap job and good service are in order. Was that JBL a black Peavey/JBL? That would be a nice amp! One of the problems they did develop was the circuit board standoffs for the power amp board were riveted to the chassis and the rivets would get loose. That was the boards ground reference! Also the reverb cable Molex connector can get oxidized and cause some problems. All of these are just maintenance items that need to be looked at in an amp that age. Well worth the price and sending it to Peavey (chassis only) for a checkup. These amps draw $350.00 and up in good condition! |

Ray,
That price is a STEAL!!!
If you don't want it for $150, I'LL TAKE IT.
It's my favorite steel amp of them all. Essentially the same guts as the original Session 400, with the smaller cabinet. This amp evolved into the Nashville 400. But you probably already knew that.
The molex plugs that connect the reverb and chassis are one thing to check and/or replace.
Let me know if you don't want that amp.

I have an LTD 400 I bought new in 1980, and it still blows and goes. I haven't had one thing go wrong with it. It has the spider web Black Widow speaker and sounds good with anything I put through it.

| Ray, go get it, let us know what you think, Jerry Fessenden gave me one that needed work and a speaker, for the price of a speaker ($75) I got a killer little amp, I put an effects loop in it, some music stores don't have a call for steel amps, so they let them go cheap, and your deal is a great one! |
