Hi Mike, this question is regarding a session 400 ltd belonging to a friend of mine.I am hoping to buy this amp but it has a problem, the problem being when played at low volume the amp performs fine but when he drives the amp the speaker cuts out.He has replaced the pcbs in the amp with the help of peavey uk & believes the problem to be in the speaker(original black widow).Have you heard of this before & can you confirm/deny that this problem may be in the speaker. Many thanks in advance for your help on this matter-kind regards- Colin Keyworth

Hello Colin,
Thanks for using the Peavey Session 400 Limited amplifier. From your description, I would say that the speaker is intermittent. Whether its in the leads or the internal winding of the voice coil. You stated that "when he drives the amp, the speaker cuts out". Maybe the terminal connections/voice coil windings are being "broken" at extreme points. I suggest that the speaker basket be replaced. I suggest that you install the Black Widow 1501-4 ohm shallow basket(#00027020).
I suggest that you try connect a different speaker to check this. If an external speaker(with the internal speaker unplugged)works fine, it would be a speaker problem. Be sure to clean the speaker gap on the BW when you replace the basket.
