What power amp would you recommend for use with an Evans preamp? Any comments?

Don't know if speakers are part of the equation or not, but.....
Look at Peavey's PX 300 powered speaker. It is a 15" BW speaker with one heck of a power amp. My guess it is the same power amp as the Session 2000. It is simple and will do the job.

The Peavey DPC 750, DPC 1000 and I believe the other is DPC 1400 are great. I really like the DPC 1000. Light weight, single space and all the CLEAN power you should every need.

The top of my list is the VHT 2/90/2 also.
It really does sound much better than anything else out there. Its expensive and heavy. The sound is comparable to those Macintosh tube power amps from the early 70's.
The only other power amp I have used that I like is the Tubeworks/Mosvalve stuff. The used ones are a real bargain.

| If your looking at solid state amps, my recommendation would be Hafler power amps. The 3000 is a great amp. They are mosfet design. The clarity of the top and bottom is great. I use them in my preamp/power amp rig and also for monitoring in my studio. |

| It's hard to find an amp made that isn't good....from QSC to Crown..all do the job. The choice would factor between space/weight/tube or solid state. For big pwr in the least space, Peavey's DPC-1400 is the best. One rack space, tons of (switching technology) power at the best price. On the other end is Bryston. I use both and love 'em. The VHT, or another tube amp would be my choice if I were using the Evans....you need some warmth and presence in there somewhere. The Evans through any solid state pwr amp sounds brittle and dead to me. |

| Evan`s pre-amp`s are great, it`s a shame they stopped making them. I agree if your not settled on speaker`s yet a pair of Peavey PX 300`s and a Lexicon kick. But if you just need a power amp, shurely you want a light one and the single rack space Peavey DPC 1400 or the 2 rack space QSC-PLX series amps at 22 lbs. rock . Awsome head room. Remember more power from your power amp than your speaker, up to twice as much equals headroom and long lasting equipment. |

I've been an exclusive Peavey user since the Twin Reverb Fender gave me was lost in a fire in the mid 70's. I went from two of the old Peavey Musician heads running two JBL 15's to a DPC 750; then a DPC 1000. I've had it for years now, since they first came out. I also use a Tube-Fex aka ala JP and would like to get a DPC-1400 on his reccomendation but there isn't a thing wrong with the 1000 so if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Speakers ?? e-mail me.......

I have owned and would recommend the following, in order of desireability:
VHT 2/90/2
Tubeworks/Mossvalve 1500
Stewart World 1.2
If price and weight is no object, get the VHT. If weight is really important, get the Stewart. For a very good tube like sound at a great price, get a used MossValve. |
