Mr. Brown,

I am considering trying to purchase a Session 2000. However, in my research, I have read several posts here on the forum regarding this amp. My concern is that Peavey has discontinued production. What would happen if something went wrong and I had to send it in for service? Is there enough spare parts to fix anything on the amp even the part in which Peavey lost its vendor source??

Thanks,
Bill Sampler

Hello Bill,
Thanks for considering the Peavey Session 2000 amplifier. As electronic technology improves specwise and designwise, most every part can retrofit an obsolete part. Rarely have we received an older Peavey amp that has a defective part that we can't replace, but it has happened. However, since this format is used in keyboards and many, many other applications, I don't see any problem with repairing any of these units.

Most of the parts on the Session 2000 are common electronic parts, but some of the cosmetic parts are one of a kind, but we do stock spares on these parts, which we rarely need for the repair. However, the RAM cartridge technology seems to be changing to another format, but there are still sources to purchase the RAM cards themselves. One is an online company called VOICE CRYSTAL. Here is their website address; http://www.voicecrystal.com/sndcards.htm
This change is kind of like the change from 78LP's to 33LP's to 8 tracks to cassette tapes to CD's.

We plan on being able to repair the Session 2000 for as long as their are units in the field.

Mike,

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond. The fact that they can be repaired in the future does make me feel better.

Thanks,

I will add a compliment to Peavey's service department. I have several Peavey amps and have bought some of them in the "non-working" condition. Peavey never failed to put them back to excellent working condition even though some of them were really old. Their repair rates are more reasonable than any other service department I have dealt with, and their turn-around time is great. Service after the sale is no problem with a Peavey.

Hello Bill

Just down the road a bit in Dallas.
I purchased a S2000 a few months ago. The things I like are:
1)Direct out connections left and right. I use these to my home recorder. The sound is true.

2) The tuner. Quick easy.

3) Direct out to a powered speaker. Using the PV PX300, you have true stereo.

4) The presets. You will find some that you like with no tinkering.

5) You can try any effect you ever dreamed of. You can tinker all night.

6) The RAM cartrige to keep the settings you like, with the names you like, and in the order you like.

The only thing I don't like: adjusting the reverb and delay takes a lot of button pushing. Can't just twist a knob. Always a trade off. The amp will do anything you want, sometimes it takes more effort to adjust. Once it is adjusted, make it a preset.

PS Even Mike's presets are pretty good.

Thanks for the compliments Ron. I spent quite a few Sunday afternoons creating some presets for the Session 2000. I would then take the amp out in a real world application and see if they would work. Most of them did, but naturally, I also had to "tweak" some of them. Thanks again for using our products.

Anytime that you have a question, give me a call and I'll do my best to answer it. 1-877-732-8391 toll free to Peavey.

Mike,
Are there plans for another amp similar to the 2000? I was pretty excited by the 2000 and was disappointed to see it discontinued (I'm sure you guys were too !). Feel free to respond to my e-mail if you care to. Thanks for all the good work by the Peavey people.

I have been useing the 2000 for as long as they have been out, I love it. I believe Peavey will come out with a re-place-ment, and I know it will be a great Steel Amp, Peavey has been with the steel players for so many years, what other major amp builder has even built steel amp and stuck with it? Peavey has been behind me for 32 years now, never has broke down.and if you do have a promlem, you have Mike Brown to deal with, if you need help, Mike is your man, just don't loan him thing's at Steel Shows ..

The Session 2000 is one of the most innovative products that was manufactured for steel guitar, but unfortunately its fate was determined by outside vendors that we purchased parts from. We have considered designing and manufacturing a "modeling" steel guitar amp, but without proper support it wouldn't be a profitable project.

Actually, 'ol David Wright was one of the first players to obtain one of the Session 2000's. Be sure to look for more steel guitar products from us in years to come.

So what is the proper replacement for my ProFex II, sturdy warhorse as it was?

I really like my Nshv 1K, but I yearn for some of the ProFex options: more than 1 EQ, Delay, etc.

Hey Mike, I'm way older than David, and I had my 2000 before him.
All kidding aside, I didn't know enough about processors to really get into the 2000 to begin with. You couldn't pry me loose from it now.Love it.
