| I was thinking about trading my Peavey ProFex II for a lexicon mpx 500 and was wandering what the difference was between the tone in the profex II and the MPX 500.Help me out here Bob Knight,John Hughey and Mike Weirauch. |

The Lexicon is an effects unit. If you want to try a Lexicon maybe you should look at their MPX 200 model. I recently bought one over ebay for $215.00. It is a new model and has a lot of nice features.

I have a Lexicon MPX500 and it is a great sounding machine. It is made to be an outboard fx unit so you need to run it in an effects loop or find a way to bump the signal up before the input or you won't be running it at the proper levels to avoid hiss problems.
I prefer the lexicon stuff over everything I have ever tried out for reverbs.

Bob I love delay and chorus.How does the delay and chorus sound in the mpx 500?

The lexicon sounds great for delays and chorus also. The 500 has a tap button so you can time your delays on the fly which comes in handy. I haven't used the Peavey box but I'm sure it has some nice sounds also.

Robert, Fred is right the Lexi`s are an effect`s unit versus the Pro-fex which is a pre-amp and effect`s with additional cache card and total set ups of the master`s and those are tweekable. The MPX 500,200,110, 100 and MPX I are the state of the art effect`s unite`s and literly nothing touches them for quality, delay oriented effect`s[reverb,delay.chorus,etc.] I say that with confidence and almost the entire recording Industry to back me up,oh and a few choice steel player`s like John Hughey, Buddy Emmon`s etc. So if you have a good amp,amp`s or rack system you will be upgrading in a big way. By if you were using your pro-fex as your pre amp in a rack system, try a Evan`s pre-amp, or a good parametric EQ such as the T.C. ELECTRONIC`S or Furman. The 500 is the most versatile and user freindly the 110 or 100 is the easiest to use if your not a gearhead and the MPX I is the best unit but not at all user-freindly.

Chuck is right about the Lexicons. I record for pop and rock guys in NYC and the lexicon stuff is pretty much the standard.
