I just literally found (in the garbage room of my co-op building) this pedal. Let me describe it. It is a typical vintage Fender chrome pedal. It is heavy as a Sherman tank. It takes a 9v battery. It has a swivel like a standard volume/tone pedal. It has two pods that stick out, one on the left and one on the right with stomp switches. One says fuzz, one says wah.
The battery wiring has been messed up so I can't try this until I have some time to mess with it. Anybody recognize this thing?
And yes, whatever it is, may you all find something cool in your trash rooms tonite too!

Jody Carver talked about this pedal a while back. Yes it is a Fender Fuzz-Wah pedal. He can tell you more about it.

Fender's "Fuzz-Wah" was made in the early '70s (after "Shaft", everyone wanted a wah-pedal). I have only seen one of these, and it was just a reworked volume-tone pedal. I think they probably sold a few hundred before the Issac Hayes fad passed.

I just found this thread that mentions the pedal---

Yeah, the fuzz/wah rig is tacked on. Not shabby but obviously an afterthought. Most interesting.

Jon- this pedal is valuable if you find the right buyer. The fuzz, as I reacall is very fuzzy, and the wah is sort of wimpy.

Well--I soldered on a (missing) battery connector and fired it up. Au contrare! It has a wild, ice-pick>underwater>ice-pick wah! Really funky and strong as all hell! And expressive. And yes, the fuzz is strong. With no controls besides on/off. The swivel controls volume and it works but is very stiff combined with the fact that this box is missing feet so it won't grip the floor well enough to use the swivel. I'll find some rubber feet and do whatever lubing it needs to slide better. Man, the chrome looks like new too.
I agree that this could be worth something to someone but right now it's worth something to me. Between the sound and the coolness, I'm one bewildered, lucky sucker.

Congrats Jon! Is this the one?

I've seen those selling for $100 -$200 US in the last year.

Here's a schematic http://www.joeyace.netfirms.com/fuzwah.gif

Wow! That's a beauty! Looks like new.

The photo I have is (I think) a 78 Fender Fuzz-Wah. I wonder if the Electronics are the same in both.

I'll ask Jody Carver to comment.

HEY JODY!!!

Joey Most everything is status quo as far as
specs,,,,there are a few changes,,,,,that I have schematics for,,but I dont know where they are at this moment,

Hey Jon,,,,,where do you live??? I'd like to go through the garbage cans in your neighborhood.

You know,,I always wanted to be a "sanitary engineer" I knew a guy who found a legit Mans
Rolex 18kt gold President model in a garbage
pail,,,,problem was,,,there was a wrist attached to it,, That was a "Big Hit".

Cant disclose the neighborhood,,but it was in Brooklyn/ Queens area. My urologist wore a watch like that,,,I couldnt tell from the wrist,,but the "finger looked familiar

Jody "The Knight Of Tweed" PS Jon careful who you tell about that pedal,,,,I heard the word was out,,,something about a "contract"
Hide that pedal and Hide with it. The owner was a guy by the initials of J.G. ya know what I mean??? FUGGDEDABOUDIT. bady bing bady boom"

man, you ain't kidding! and I'm not telling. It's mine, all mine.
I'm not worried about JG. He was the Teflon Don. It's the Steel Don I'd worry about. Hmmm...Steely Don?

I must be doing something right. I picked up a TransTubeFex at Manny's last year, used, for $85. And now this.

Yeah, the urologist sure gives a new meaning to "going digital".

Thanks for the info Jody!
(If you don't know him, Jody was the Fender Rep who sold this stuff.)

Retail was $89.50, dealer discount 50%.
I remember you could expect a 30% discount at Manny's.

These are also from Jody's collection:

Look out! Conversations about Jerry Garcia can get quite heated on this Forum!

Thanks again Jody!

That older model (the one in the orange box in Joey's post) is the one I'm familiar with. The newer model pictured (the one with the pushbuttons on the pedal surface) makes a little more sense, and would probably be easier to use. I've never even seen one of those...but then, I quit shopping Fender when they stopped making the pedal steels and hard-wired amps. Guess that makes me an old "fossil" with an attitude?

Oh yeah, I did buy a Stage 112SE in a moment of stupor...which I'm still modifying so it will suit me!

I have one of the fuzz-wah pedals like the one Joey shows, with the push switches on the top of the pedal ,and control knobs,it has a black wrinkle finish.
I also have one that looks like the one in the "blue" box,
I can't tell for sure ,as mine is only 2"s measured at the pivot screw(middle of pedal)from the top of the pedal to the floor, very low pedal.were these a common size pedal ?

I also have the one that swivels, tone & vol.
