Nashville 1000 and Tubefex

Post by Randy Greer »

Is anyone using this combo? If so, how are you hooking up everything? Are you just using the Jeff Newman presets, or did you come up with your own?

Thanks.

I have a Tubefex I have used with a Session 400. I loaded it initially with Newman presets from a memory card. The presets in a Profex cannot be sent via midi to a Tubefex, as they are System Exclusive messages. I also have presets from the following site for steel guitar:
http://www2.netdoor.com/~johnfera/TubeFex/

I have saved my settings on a Peavey Midi Streamer and to a 3.5" floppy. That way I can use which ever settings I want. There is a program (FexManager) free on that site. With a midi connector for your computer (connects to the joystick port) you can download and upload to your Tubefex. It's a great device. To me it sounds just like a Profex with the Newman settings in it, has a tuner, and has an optional tube preamp. You might check that site concerning the version 2 upgrade as well.
[This message was edited by Ken Fox on 27 March 2002 at 06:56 PM.]

Randy,

I use the mentioned combo. I plug in the Power Amp In jack in the back of the amp itself bypassing the Nash Eq. This way I can run both tube and the 3band Eq with plate reverb and delay. This a short term thing as I try to build a rack set-up, but it still sounds good.

What I am hoping to do soon is to put the tubefex with a DCP 1400 with two 1501-4's in the floor.

I've been experimenting with the 5 band eq on my Tubefex.TB>5 band + whatever.I'm trying to duplicate some of my Roland GP-100 patches. The 5 band sounds good when tweaked to my rig but adds a little more noise. If you're going to use the tubefex with the 1000, why wouldn't you just have bought a 2000 instead? Just curious. Is there an advantage to this combination?

Thanks guys for your reply. Fred, to be honest, I don't know why I didn't get the Session. I guess I didn't do my homework. At the time I got the 1000 (last year) someone had recommended the 1000 and never did mention the Session. I just got the TubeFex a couple of months ago thinking I would get that tone I was looking for. I think I pretty much have it. However, I was being curious to see if there was anyone else who had the same setup as me and how they were using it.

Fred,

I wanted the 2000 over the 1000 but could not get one at that time. Then I bought the Tubefex several months after the 1000 for the additional effects and built in tuner.

The advantage I have now is if something goes wrong with the Tubefex, I can send it back for repairs and still have something to play thru. Unlike the 2000, if it breaks down, it all goes back. Also, I don't think the 2000 has a set of tubes in it. I think its more like a transtube unit.

Finally, I have no more money in these two unit's as I would in a 2000.
