When patching from the amp into the board via a Peavey EDI, should the steel amp be connected to 110v with a groundless adapter to prevent a ground loop hum with the board?

NO! That won't neccesarily stop it. If you have a ground loop cut the ground/shield wire(I think it is pin #1) on the EDI end of the cable. It will still be shielded from the ground on the mixer(if you cut it on the mixer end you won't have the ground for the shield). A balanced cable only send the signal through the two center wires.

?? Cut the pin on the mic patch chord going from the EDI to the board? My thoughts were to put a groundless adapter on my amp power cord (110v). That way there would be one ground only, coming from the mixer board. The EDI is not powered by 110v. Otherwise the board and my steel amp would create a ground loop hum? The EDI is built to be a patch into the board for the older amps (session 400) that don't have a line out or preamp out. However, it creates a ground loop hum quite often. I haven't tried an adapter on the session 400 yet. I don't want to try this if it deletes a safe ground.

Yep. Cut the ground on the XLR chord. This will eliminate the ground between the EDI and the mixer and stop the ground loop. The ground is only for a shield on a balanced cable.

I agree with Larry, it's not a good idea to lift the ground on the amp. If the plug got turned around, you could get a nasty shock. Clipping the #1 wire is the best way to go. Someone with a little electronic and soldering experience could probably add a ground lift switch to the EDI, then you could use it either way. You may want to mark the XLR cable some way so you'll know is is different.
