I have a wall wart rated at 850mA. I also have two f/x units that draw 200mA each. The wall wart works fine with either of the two f/x units. Would it be OK to use a "Y" cord (available at Radio Shack) to power both f/x units at the same time?

You should be able to parallel them and it will work OK. That is basically what is done with the floor "racks" the guitar players use that have several stomp boxes in it and one power supply.

Thanks, Jack. Will I be OK as long as the combination of 2 or more f/x units don't draw more than th 850mA's that the wall wart is rated at?

Yes, you should be OK. Again, that's the way many pedalboard power supplies work.

To power up to 5 Boss pedals, I used to buy a Radio Shack wall wart along with 4 plugs and a little extra wire. Cut the wire on the power pack then using the extra wire, splice the 4 plugs on. The final result was a reliable power pack for all five pedals, otherwise known as the cat of five tails. Only time I had a problem was after adding a submini plug for a ProCo Rat becuase it has the ground on the outside shaft while Boss has it on the inside.
