I'm thinking about putting together a cabinet with 2 EV Force 12" speakers (I have a Fender Dual Showman head). Has anyone used these speakers?

I haven't used the 12's, but I have EV Force 15's in my steel cabinets, and I like them better than either the JBL's or Black Widows that I've used previously. The power rating is slightly lower than those speakers, but they have never complained being pushed hard with my Stereo Steel amp at 200W per side. The tone of the EV's is, to my ear, more "musical", for lack of a better description, than the Black Widows or JBL's. They weigh significantly less, too.

I believe they are only available in 8 ohm. I don't know what impedance load makes a Dual Showman happy.

I tried a T/R once with "Force" speakers. They were smoother than Jensens, but didn't have as much bottom as I like. But, I imagine if you had 200 watts, and a good E-Q, you could overcome that problem.

You should check out the EVM-12L's.
They're a bit more $$$ than the Force
series, but what a difference. Since
the magnet structure on the Force speakers
is much smaller, that translates into
less low end. That's also why they're
less expensive.

Right Jay! I'd always thought that if you could pick a speaker up easily with one hand, it wasn't much good.

If I recollect, I think the EVs have a higher efficiency rating? Which means it will be louder with slightly less power requirements? Makes power tubes smile.

I have been using EV Eliminator speakers and subwoofers and have pushed as much as a whole band thru them. They are really crisp . I like them. We have even run the bass direct. In those applications I drive them from Mackie stereo amps.

Its a bit much of a setup for steel convenience. They also make EV Eliminator floor monitors with 15" and horns which might be worth trying for steel use.

An EV fan and steel player,
