I wonder if anyone have tried these cabs for steel. I read a lot positive about them at www.harmony-central.com , but that's mainly written by regular guitarists and the steel has of course a completely different tone!
I belive they are "half closed" backs.
I have noticed that not many steelers like or mentions celestion speakers. Any paticular rasons for this?

I have a pair of those and I used to have 80 watt Celestions in them.I`ve since put BWs in but the Celestions are still in use,in a Gallien-Krueger stereo cab which I use for lower volume gigs(most of the time).So I think the cabinets are excellent but the 30 watt Celestion might break up a bit too easily with the steel.Haven`t tried them so I can`t say for sure,though.

I love Celestions. My favorite is a combination of a JBL type speaker with a Celestion. The Celestion doesn't have that 'hi-fi' clean sound of the JBL, but it has great punch and is much smoother than a JBL type speaker. This is especially applicable for blues or rock and roll. JBLs (or BWs) simply don't do very well with an overdriven tube amp, they tend to sound harsh.

| I second what Bobby says about the EVM's. I consider the Celestions to be just about "average", not exactly what I'm looking for for steel. But, they do seem to do well on blues-type straight guitar. |

I have tried the 90 watt celestion and the 30 watt. The 90 watt is very midrange. The 30 watt is nice, but breaks up easily. I would vote for the EVM 12L, which is what I replaced the celestions with in my Mesa Mark I. Good round tone, and tons of headroom.

I switched the speakers in both of my
amps to EVM-15L's. They're by far the
best overall of any I've used in the
past (which are just about all the others).
