help with IVL Steelrider

I've had an IVL Steelrider synth for a number of years, but have recently developed a problem with it. Whenever I turn it on now, only some of the strings register a signal, and only after repeatedly turning it off and on do all the strings seem to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It may be in the connecting cable's pins. I had some shorter cables made for mine and sometimes I have to reseat them and cycle power on the unit a couple of times before they will all trigger.

I also had a problem w/cables but on mine,just one string went out-and STAYED out.I called Digitech and they sent me another set of cables-for a rather hefty price as I recall.For an intermittant problem I would suggest spraying some contact cleaner into both ends of all the connections(w/the power off,of course)followed by blowing them out w/compressed air.After that,try new cables.There could also be a loose connection,solder joint or what-have-you on the circuit boards etc. Sometimes re-seating the chips can also help.Pickups can also go out-good luck on that one. -MJ-

Thanks, for the suggestions. I've cleaned the jacks on the main unit, as well as the cable ends, and used a meter to check each pins continuity on the cables but the problem still persists. I may try checking the chips next. Thanks again to all who replied, as a new member this is an amazing and helpful place!!!

I sent David Chockley an e-mail in response to his Steel Rider problem but I think there may be others who would like to know this. Every once in a while the unit will act up in strange ways. One way to put it back on track is to perform a "hard reset". I got this info from an IVL technician back when they were still building them.

With the unit "off", press and hold the string selector button, the increase button and the decrease button simultaneously. While keeping them depressed, turn the unit on. Keep them depressed until two little upside down hockey sticks appear in the window. Then release the three buttons. This returns all the unit's parameters to the original factory settings.

You will then have to reset the sensitivity and other settings to your desired playing numbers.

I turn the unit on now everything seems
to be working properly. Good luck Mike
on your midi steel pickups, and if you
would, keep me informed on the progress
because I too, have had my SteelRider
for about 10 years and I love it.
