| Can anyone that has a Matchbro power supply, tell me whether it's a tip+ or tip-? This is for the 18volt Matchbro unit (approx 4 yrs old) ALSO...is anyone useing anything OTHER than a Goodrich power supply for their Matchbro, and if so, what kind? I didn't know that Matchbro had a version with a DC input jack. I have thought many times about changing mine to use an external power supply. I guess I have only seen the older ones.

Terry, my MatchBro is one of the older models and it has the DC input jack. Mine is one of the original models with the bypass tone control.
I've considered an external power supply but I didn't want the hassle of an extra power unit and the two 9V batteries last at least 6 months.
I did install a power on/off switch that is in series with the ground "power on" lug on the input jack. On stage during breaks I can turn it off and it will mute the steel or if I have it set up at home I can hit the on/off switch and don't have to unplug the input cable. Having the switch in series with the input jack contact means both have to be on for the unit to work, that way if I forget to switch the on/off switch off it will still go off from not having a cable plugged into it. |

| That is a good idea Jack. You must have told Goodrich about that because my "newer" unit has that same feature. It has no tone control. |

| Terry, I've been told the newer models completely bypass the unit (including power)when it's off. In the older units, like mine, it has basically a matchbox in the circuit when the dobro effect is turned off. My "mod" turns power off to the unit. |

Thanks for that extra info Terry & Jack. It seems that from the description of the units you two have-mine is different. It's difficult to determine just WHAT I have since the mfgr has been kinda elusive about what model has what features. In fact, there IS no code-serial #, alphanumeric code, or anything! My unit is not the original model, but it DOES have a tone control on it. The literature that came in the box is equally generic. It does point out that ONLY the Goodrich power supply should be used with it but isn't clear about whether it's a DC or AC power supply, or how much the power supply costs, or how to order one. No info as to current requirements/consumption-it DOEs give a hint as to how long the pair of 9v batteries might last under normal operation. There is a dobro-guitar slide switch on the top along with 2 controls for timbre and tone. The (steel) tone control pot is on the bottom, and no on-off switch-(it uses the input jack).

| My Matchbro has the full bypass and has had the same battery in it since I bought it new approximately 2 years ago. I only use it every couple of weeks, so this may have something to do with it also. |

| Cairo, you have one of the originals like mine, which many people prefer to the newer ones. I think over a year ago the Goodrich's commented here that their power supply is heavily filtered and they don't recommend using anyone elses. Since the MatchBro uses two batteries which are DC, the power supply would also have to be DC. |

Thanks Darvin & Jim. Guess I'll bury this dead horse and continue with the batteries since everyone agrees that this is NOT a battery hungry unit. I'm happy tho' to have such a cool tool that adds another dimension to my sound. Used sparingly, it DOES make 'em look up doesn't it?
