I am using a Stereo VCR to do live recordings. VCR audio seems to be so much better than quarter-inch tape decks. I don't care about the video so I just use a video signal from another VCR tape for sync info. The stereo inputs to the recording VCR is being fed from the Tape-Out of my Peavey Unite 2002 mixer. Works pretty good but: The Tape-Out control on the mixer is at max and the recorded level on the VCR tape is still weak. What might the problem be?

Check the input sensitivity rating on the VCR and make sure that it can accept a nominal 1 volt signal. I suspect that either it can't or that there is an impedance mismatch between the two machines.

Let me know this information and I'll try to assist you further.

Thanks for using Peavey products.

Bob....

Most VCR's audio inputs are "line inputs", that means that you canot just plug "mikes" or "Guitars" into it.

I, like you, do a lot of recording using the VCR audio system. I use a little Radio Shack 4 channel mixer in front of the VCR. Works great !!

After reading your post again, you say you are using a Mixer.

If you set the VCR up for line input instead of TV , you don't need to use another tape for syn info AND you will turn on the line input jacks of the VCR !!

Now at this point, the signal should be more than enought to do the job. Be sure to start out with controls at a low level, We don't want to damage anything here, like input circuits.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Bill, What is the frequency response of that Radio Stack item? I do not want to defeat the purpose of using a VCR in the first place. Bob
