Lawrence 610 vs. 910
Has anyone had a chance to A/B these two pickups? They are both described as a humbucker with a single coil sound. I was wondering how they compared tonally. Thanks, Larry Clark

I had a 610 for a year or so awhile back.
They definitely emphasize the high end
& take out some of the mids. Almost like
an old 70's Sho~Bud pickup but with no hum.
I think the 910's are supposedly a bit more
balanced tonally...or something.

I'm not sure I would chategorize it that way, Bill. I was hesitant to jump in here because I only played through a 610 once - and briefly at that. Seemed to thin for my taste.<SMALL>if you want the best of both worlds get a 710 with an IQ-1200 the a little turn of the knob you have the 910</SMALL>
But I personally don't think that L710 + IQ1200 = L910. I have 3 guitars with 3 different PUs and the IQ1200 seems to have a different effect on each. In fact, I only use it on one.
On one extreme of the dial with the IQ1200, there is essentially no effect (or very little, if any) whatsoever. On the other extreme, you approach this 'acoustic' sound. I think you have to dial in your EQ with the thing in 'off' mode, and then adjust knob to taste. But, in my experience, as you move toward this 'acoustic' sound as the IQ1200 is dialed up, you lose a lot of bite in the sound. The L910 retains this bite, but I think you also have a much more balanced sound as Jay said. I had posted my thoughts on the L910 here: http://www.b0b.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/011214.html in case anyone is interested.
Hope this helps.
