My 500 recently developed an intermittent problem. From out of nowhere it starts popping like a machine gun going off. Pop Pop Pop Pop Pop Pop Pop, very rapidly, then stops indefinitely. I suspect a capacitor but haven't had the time to tear the amp down. Anyone ever heard this reaction from a Peavey product?

thanks,
Carl

Check the power supply caps. The Session 500's are relatively old and the filter caps would be a good place to start (even if it doesn't fix your problem).

I had a problem with the one I had, it would lose volume and the limiter lamp would come on. The power supply voltages, on the output transistors, were only 3 volts low, but it turned out to be the filter caps.

Carl,
I had a Nashville doing the same thing, turned out to be a cracked PCB solder joint in my case.

Get a schematic and check the voltages throughout the power supply, paying special attention to those filter caps.
