I have read in many places on this forum about the state of country music, the artists, arrangements etc. and generally the way country music is packaged and presented for the public. I haven't seen much about the the quality of songs themselves. Which brings me to the point of this topic.
The other day I picked up a cd from a bargain bin for $5. It was a 22 track cd by Melba Montgomery and pretty miss Norma Jean.
I looked and found there were quite a few songs written by my favourite country songwriter of all time Harlan Howard so I bought it without hesitation. I put it in the car and was driving around listening and "No Charge" came on.I guess I had a tear in my eye as my wife said; "You ok Hon?"."Yeah I said. The tear wasn't just for the exquisite lyrics of No Charge but for the lack of quality songs coming out these days e.g. Another bridge to burn and the key's in the mail box.Magnificently crafted lyrics set to beautifull tunes and melody, melody, melody all the way. Harlan Howard simply the best. R.I.P. |

Geoff, You have certainly got that right. He also did "Sunday Mornin' Christian" one of my favorites. Cheers to you and I sure wish I could visit your country someday. Ray
