Tnat's not exactly what I wanted to hear.
Anita was 87, I think, and had been failing for several years. But she had performed within the last year or so and recently released a new CD. A pro for 65 years. Made every move there was to make, good and bad.
One of the all time troupers, all time characters, and I guess my favorite jazz singer. Saw her 3 or 4 times from the late 70s on.
Here are 3 videos; first one with Gene Krupa and Roy Eldridge, circa 1942. The last 2 are her performances from "Jazz On A Summer's Day" at Newport in 1958.

Sad news. Anita is one of my all-time favorite singers. In an era where most everyone sounded alike, she had a unique sound and could swing with the best instrumentalists. |

Amazing she made it to 87, though! |

She and Billie Holiday were my two favorite singers of the Big Band era. I love the stuff Anita recorded with Gene Krupa.
