How long did you tolerate The CMA Awards?

The reason they all look so punky and sleazy is that's what the producers/labels want these days. It's definitely not about the music. I didn't watch it at all. I didn't want to see Big and Rich make fools out of all of us who call ourselves "Country Music" fans. Someone mentioned they hadn't heard Carrie Underwood on the radio, but most stations play the same songs over and over, so if you were listening you'd have heard it. You probably weren't listening and neither was I. I think she has a great voice, however. Much better than most I'm hearing out there these days.

I didn't see the show, but there was a news clip on CNN this morning about Faith Hill's reaction to Carrie's winning the award.

During the CMA broadcast there was a sidebar with small headshots of the nominees and Faith was smiling in anticipation. When Carrie's name was announced, Faith's look suddenly changed to disbelief, her eyes got as wide as coffee cups, and she mouthed the word "WHAT!?!?"

Call it "Dueling Divas."

It was enough that at least one news network saw fit to add it to their coverage of the CMAs.

Is it me, or do most all of the female singers now sound somewhat alike? I remember back in the '60s when all the big female singers had a very unique sound and style (Patsy, Dolly, Loretta, Kitty, Tammy, Wilma, Jeannie, Jean, June, Jan, Wilma Lee, Melba, Helen, Lois, and Dottie). There was no mistaking any one of them for the other!

Nowadays...I can't tell most of the new female singers apart.

I watched most of it, I just wanted to see my buddies playing steel on TV. Great source of inspiration for me.

NEW YORK - Faith Hill insists she's no Kanye West.

The country music superstar says she was just joking when cameras showed her screaming "WHAT?" in apparent anger when she lost the female vocalist of the year award to newcomer Carrie Underwood at the Country Music Association Awards ceremony Monday night in Nashville.

"The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me," Hill said in a statement. "For this to become a focus of attention given the talent gathered is utterly ridiculous. Carrie is a talented and deserving Female Vocalist of The Year."

Media outlets and blogs zeroed in on Hill's reaction after Underwood's name was announced at the ceremony. While other nominees - Sara Evans, Gretchen Wilson, Martina McBride - gave the typical gracious loser smile, Hill, who was standing backstage, turned to the camera and shouted "WHAT?"

Although her voice could not be heard, it was clear from her lips what she said. She looked visibly upset and then it looked as if she was storming off.

However, Hill said it was all a joke, and her manager, Gary Borman, echoed that: "I've worked with Faith for many years now and the idea that she would ever insult or undermine another artist, let alone another human being's success is absolutely preposterous. Those who know her know that she's incapable of such actions," he said in a statement.

"She was being playful while the nominations were being read and playful after."

Underwood, the 2005 "American Idol" champ, has become a triple platinum success since releasing her debut album late last year. Hill is a longtime darling of country music with crossover pop appeal.

This is the second time in less than a week that an awards show loss has resulted in an (apparent) on-camera freakout by a loser. Last week, Kanye West stormed the stage at the MTV Europe Music Awards and interrupted the speech of the winners, claiming his video deserved the honor.

Sounds like a "crock" to me. I believe the only thing she is probably upset about today is that the cameras caught her reaction.

I watched it all. Didn't care for a lot
of it, but I must say there were more acts with a steel guitarist than I've seen in a long time. The forum was well represented.

I think Faith is a pretty sharp cookie-but tried to make a dramatic joke out of it and it appeared to be a little too believable.

I saw a little bit of it. I thought that the steel behind Brad Paisley was great!

Randle Currie's steel was louder than Brad's voice in the first part of his song.

Panned hard left, loud, with no effects at all. I think that a lot of us should rethink what great steel is supposed to sound like. It don't get much better than that, IMHO. Nice job, Randle!

I thought the sound was really compressed.
I turned it up and then
I flipped back and forth to watch
the Seahawks play on ESPN and had
to keep playing with the volume.
That was on satelite too.

I agree with Randy Beavers, something
needs to be done.

Jim Walker, That must have been everybit of 3 minutes, if that for the steelers. It seemed to me the camera men jumped to everyone but the steelers. Sure got enough of the leads, and drummers and oh yea the guy with the porcupine down the middle haircut. What's it coming to guys. I think we need to do a major steel in on music row. I mean get every steel player good or bad, and clog up nashville.

They still wouldn't get the message.

I worked a gig last night, and missed the awards show. I would have liked to have been there, but to me a comitment is important.......And our band (Country Night Live" won "Best Traditional Country Band for two years straight.......NO!I don't mean the C.M.A awards..... I mean the Terry Awards.

I actually tried not to even open this thread, but like trying not to look at a bad car wreck, I felt drawn to see what ya'all had to say about it.

It is sickening what is being called COUNTRY anymore.

So what if there were not that many shots of steels and steel players on the awards show. It IS an awards show NOT a steel show. If you don"t like it then there is a button on your tv remote that is IF you can figure out how to use it that says OFF feel free to use it or the channel up down buttons at will if you don't like the show.

What I saw of it, I didn't understand, except the sleazy women thing.. which I was somehow strangely attracted to.

Even at 53, I'm willing to get the hell out of the way and let the younger kids do their music the way they want to.

Anything with Brad P in is it WELL worth watching. His albums always has Randle's playing WAY out front, and in a lot of cases he seems to showcase it more than his own fantastic guitar work. Can't wait for a new album.

The rest of it? Hey, it is what it is.

I doubt if I'll be adding GAC anytime soon. I mistakenly thought I was safe from it...

What award did Shania get?
