memorial tunes

Post by Garry Vanderlinde »

What songs would be appropriate to play for a funeral or memorial service? They said it should be a celebration.

"Victory In Jesus", "That's What Heaven Means To Me", "I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You". "Supper Time", "When I Get Where I'm Going". These are just a few.

You can't beat "I'll Fly Away"!

That's one my mom requested for her funeral.

Remember, first we have to learn how to live, then we have to learn how to die and then we have to learn how to FLY.

I'm in agreement with most of Jerry Roller's on this one.

Any of these would be appropriate!

1) VICTORY IN JESUS (In JESUS we have the victory!)

2) A MANSION OVER THE HILLTOP (Because of what JESUS did we will have a mansion if we go to Heaven!)

3) BLESSED ASSURANCE (We have full Assurance in JESUS!)

4) AMAZING GRACE (Because of GOD's Amazing Grace, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God."

5) WHAT A FRIEND (What a Friend we have in JESUS, the words speaks for otself.)

6) I'LL FLY AWAY (Our Pastor says don't sing when I die, but rather has us sing, "When arise, Hallelujah, by and by, I'll fly away!"

7) I WON"T HAVE TO CROSS JORDAN ALONE! (JESUS died for my sins to atone! Amen!)

I hope this helps you in someway.

May GOD bless you!

I've always liked:

I Will Not Be A Stranger (When I Get To That City).

All of the above are great suggestions, I especially like Beulah Land.

My personal favorite is "How Great Thou Art"

Fairly simple to do a respectable version on E9. (if I can play it, anyone can!) Image

Good Luck!

I haven't heard the melody, only the backup track of "In the Presence of the Lord" (Tommy Dodd's "In the Steel of the Night"), but I'm sure it would qualify.

Here's another: "Sailing toward Home," on an Oak Ridge Boys earlier gospel days album--can't remember the name of it, but the picture shows them holding up a tall ladder.
[This message was edited by James Cann on 06 November 2006 at 02:38 PM.]

Check out Nicole C. Mullen. I just happened to see her on Billy Graham shows twice, and she's stunning.
