Anyone else wonder about CMT programming. When I turn the channel on, if they're playing music videos, 30% of the time they're playing Dirks Bentley, or 30% of the time they're playing Toby Keith, or 30% of the time they're playing Kenny Chesney. With about 10% left for other artists. Dixie Chicks had #1 video on VH1 for 10-weeks, but CMT won't play it. Think it's their best video. Do you have to be a Bush supporter (33%) or a Republican for a country act to get their videos played? Also, is there one person in the U.S. who tunes in to watch old Dukes of Hazard reruns. Just wondering.

Not sure about CMT programming, but if you want to get airplay on my set, it wouldn't hurt.

VH1 isn't a country channel. Politics shouldn't enter into it, but it does- kinda makes me sick.

Dixie Chicks have always been a Country group, playing fiddle, dobro, banjo, guitar. Lloyd Maines has always been a Pedal Steel Guitar Player. I'd like to see it played.

CMA Mission Statement:

“CMA is dedicated to bringing the poetry and emotion of Country Music to the world. We will continue a tradition of leadership and professionalism, promoting music and recognizing excellence in all its forms. While fostering a spirit of community and sharing, we will respect and encourage creativity and the unique contributions of all. CMA will be a place to have fun and celebrate success. We will take risks, embrace change, and always exceed the expectations of those we serve.”

This is pure B.S.

The Dixie Chicks have been banned from the CMA Awards. No.1 album is not nominated purely for political reasons. What other hidden agendas are in their programming?

This is silly. The Dixie Chicks have learned what happens when you "take a dump" where you eat. It is safe to say that a majority of country fans are patriotic and if CMT aired their videos, then there would be complaints voiced. Sometimes, the market works! You see, the right to protest does not solely belong to the left.

This does not mean that all of the patriotic country fans vote for Republicans, even though they should vote for the conservative agenda. Furthermore, there are far too many church goers who vote for pro-abortion politicians and this is a HUGE inconsistency.

If you want to watch the Dixie Gals videos, then record them or buy them and watch them 24/7. Buy their CDs and listen 24/7. In fact, buy all their material and just waller in it, if that does it for you. No one is stopping you. You can still attend all their concerts. Just remember that some people are exercising their free choice to ignore them or protest them.

These Dixie Gals and others in the entertainment field are foolishly abusing their opportunity to stand before crowds. If they had not been famous musicians, then no one would have shown up to hear them declare their political views. It does not make good business sense to hack off half of your fan base.

I suspect this thread was actually started to express political views, which b0b rarely allows. I rarely watch these channels. Why get unnecessarily frustrated? Just buy what you like to listen to and ignore these channels.

Keep in mind, that there are many conservative musicians on this forum and some of us are to the right of Limbaugh!

there is no such thing as entitlement to get your music/video played.

The Chicks, talented as they are, dissed Country Music fans as well with there last release.

They can't have it both ways..

this is not Burger King....

Not speaking political, but I moved way past the comment Natalie said about the President, but then when she took BACK the apology this year I scratched my head in amazement. How can any single person be that stupid, or arrogant....?

She jumped over the chasm to the other side. Her choice.

I have listened to a few cuts from the CD and it is good. I won't buy it though.

I don't have to.

I'd rather buy a CD from a struggling artist who is grateful for the exposure.

Quite frankly, the Chicks to me have reached a point that many other groups have..One Voice, which I am getting tired of anyway...

I wish them well.

I would be willing to bet that the CHICKS organization behind the scene is not realy happy with the vocal blurtings. Sure they may state support in public, but behind the scenes, when there are no camera's or stage lights, someone is counting lost revenue from the right to open the pie hole and blurt..

it's a business.

There should be...

...if you meet the standards, qualifications, and requirements for nomination.

Nowhere in the CMAs mission statement does it say you must be conservative or agree with their political values! It does say they welcome change and will take risks - yeah right!!

Now if the CMA has in fact deterrmined that the Chick's new alblum is not country and does not qualify then that is a different matter. Didn't they do the same thing to Johnny Cash when he had a no. 1 song with "Hurt"?

CMA is not a TV station.

CMT and GAC are not owned by the CMA.

Currently the Chicks are not on the Billboard top 25 Country SINGLES Chart, maybe thats why they are not playing the video ...

Toby Keith and Kenny Chesney (blah) are...

Maybe thats why they ARE playing there video's in rotation.

Politics has nothing to do with it.

I don't watch CMT. And you're right, it's probably not politics - it's about viewership and $$$$$.

What I was referring to was the CMA awards show. Banning the Chicks with such a positive, creative, risk taking, forward thinking Mission Statement ....well, it smells like "politics"!

I rarely watch the CMA Awards show or the CMT videos so I guess I don't know why I even have an opinion!

When does good music become good music, and stupid music become bad?

if the reference for good or bad music is based on what WE personally think then it's an easy question to answer.

But if you ask someone else..they may not agree with our choices.
